The Global Bass Experience’s second home is with Boom One Records. On our own we work hard to grow just as we do together. All of TGBE’s releases are distributed through this mostly Dub and Reggae Label, where we bring Nu Cumbia and other Tropical Bass fusion flavors.
This week and next week BOR has a couple of great album releases I’d like to share with you.
First is King Rat’s self titled LP released on April 14th. King Rat is an Atlanta based Dub ensemble, a surprising mixture of instrumental textures. Sometimes the bass growls almost evilly but is surrounded by the chill vibes of the rest of the instruments.
King Rat is another Dub ensemble showing the United States how much Dub actually comes out of Atlanta. Not known for its Reggae and Dub sounds but more for its Blues and Alternative Rock, Atlanta is quickly developing a scene for the dreaded and not dreaded alike.
TGBE’s own Matthew Mansfield (Piper Street Sound) is once again involved in a Dub venture as he played bass. provided percussion and engineered a for this album. The rest of King Rat includes Jeremy Saude on drums, latin percussion by Camilo Moncada, Ryan Rudolph’s saxophone, Julian Moreno on guitar, synths, keys and melodica by Sam Epstein.
Leading the Atlanta reggae/Dub scene, Piper Street Sound again uses his talents with ERE (Eclectic Roots Ensemble) recording ERE at his Piper Street Sound studio in Atlanta. This is a fresh recording of Roots Reggae style music. No Dub heavy like we hear so much today, it’s nice to just listen to chill Reggae every once in a while when one needs to relax of have something smooth playing in the back ground. ERE’ “Feelin It” is just what the chill doctor ordered.
Cortez Paschal leads ERE and is the lead songwriter, lyricist, and plays most instruments in the studio. Vocalist Bakeem and several other musicians fill out the rest of the sound beautifully and very skillfully, creating excellent Roots sounds. “Feelin It’ is a very lovely album with a perfect release date, April 21st, just when outside really starts warming up.
