Question authority, speak your mind, always know what’s really going on, always seek out the truth, and make sure to buy a hat that expresses your opinion or philosophy. With this hat everyone will easily recognize your position on the issue the hat protests. Wear this hat for as long as you believe in what it stands for. Be ready for debate and opposition as well as be aware some may agree with you and ask you questions like “where did you buy your hat?” On a bad hair day, when you don’t want to be noticed but need to run to the store to buy something, this hat might not be the best idea to wear. This is the problem with speaking your mind and wearing an article of clothing that expresses your belief. This is a problem that never crossed your mind when you proudly purchased your hat and wore it for the first time.
I have a hat that says “End The Fed.” I don’t like the Federal Reserve for many reasons but what I’ve realized over the past couple of years is that I don’t like to express my opinions about the Federal Reserve as much as I used to because of this hat. I like how it looks, I like what it says, but I honestly can’t speak against the Federal Reserve anymore. There are more serious matters to address in life. I hate the Federal Reserve but not as much as I used to. Now I’m in a love/hate relationship with my hat that expresses my opinions. I never thought owning a hat would be so difficult. I don’t want to talk about it, I am having an annoying allergy attack or a bad headache and I just didn’t want to dress up to go to the pharmacy so I put this hat on to run out into public really quickly but… damn it I have to uphold my opinions and beliefs and defend them at any moment when someone notices my hat and has something to say about it. I’m a punk rocker, yes I am but I also just want to go into this store real quickly unnoticed and unbothered without having to debate or give a speech.
Oh the true agony of anarchy…
Now onto the Cumbia!
This is it, the Captain is back on deck with a serious LP he so creatively put together. Releasing track by track, Captain Cumbia slowly uploaded his new LP of Cumbia mashups. He is always creative with his approach. In the past he did it as a competition. That worked out rather well. This time his method reflects our modern connectivity, artistic control by the artist, and ease of not relying on a record label or middle man to a record label to do the marketing.
After what seemed like a little hiatus, Captain Cumbia pleasantly returns to his fans with a great new collection of mashups all with his unique style. I love sharing his work and am pleased to be able to present this to all of you on Nu Cumbia Experience.
The quintessential Digital Cumbia sound, is how I would describe this next track to someone for the first time. It has all the elements that drew me first to Nu Cumbia when I started in this crazy world. Chimbero will take you on a euphoric minimalist Digital Cumbia trip with “Flotadoro.”
There probably will not be a week that will go by where I don’t have someone from Peru on here. They’re the leaders in the Nu Cumbia Experience in my opinion. Creatively they just bring a lot of special sounds and vibes to the Nu Cumbia culture. And a couple of my favorite artists from Peru joined together for this next one. The artists being Deltatron and Qechuaboi. Each bring their own unique touch to “Nafter” making one hell of a tune that mixes several different motifs and Tropical Bass genres but always there’s the Cumbia element.
If you want to take a special trip into bizarre Nu Cumbia and spacey Dub, this mixtape from Panchasila is for you. Let this get inside your brain and take over for a while.
If you liked the last mixtape then you’ll probably dig this one too. It is also from the desk of Pakapi Tapes and is another chapter into the bizarre Nu Cumbia and Dub… the Pcicotropical as it were.
I’m going to keep this current vibe going with another wild yet minimal Nu Cumbia by Panchasila. It’s a lovely ethereal trip of a tune. I simply love the simplicity and creativity involved with this little production.
There are some cool visuals that go along with that last one too!

Things are very psychedelic this week on Nu Cumbia Experience. It seems there is something going on with us in the Nu Cumbia scene at the moment. There’s something in the water. The astonishing question remains… How did we all end up drinking the same water?
Soy Manduka drops off this excellent psychedelic Nu Cumbia “Venceremos” featuring Monsieur Cake.
Tribilin Sound is no stranger here. He’s just another awesome Peruvian Cumbiero that brings some of the greatest in the scene to the scene. This is his new remix of Umoja’s “Bilongo Con Sandunga” which is an alternate remix from his other remix he did for the “Umoja – La Piragua Remixes” on Regional a while back.
Here is where nostalgia meets love for modern Nu Cumbia for me. It’s Tribilin Sound again but with a new take on Vangelis’ soundtrack from one of my favorite movies Bladerunner. This is too awesome not to share!

It seriously is a psychedelic Nu Cumbia Experience this weekend, there’s no denying it at this point. To add to this lovely mind bending sonic experience Pedrolito is here yet again with an excellent, beautiful and powerful Folklore Digital mixtape number thirteen.

Two deep Cumbia boys come together on this next one. My good friends Cybernetiko and Dany F both share a love for Cumbia, minimalism, beautiful melodies and downtempo Trance-like vibes. Cybernetiko released his excellent EP “Genetiko” on The Global Bass Experience last year shortly after we first launched as a blog and semi-label. “Interstellar” is one of the tracks off that excellent EP and Dany F brought his own touch to it with a remix.
G-Flux and Afrodita have been making beautiful music together for five years now and Cassette Blog respected this partnership with a special exclusive release on their blog. Here is their track they produced exclusively for Cassette Blog.
Kicking up the pace Arun y la Cumbia comes to light the fire with a Cumbia remix.
Don Alex drops by with a hot accordion and bass-heavy refix of “Menéalo.”
Sticking to hot accordion-heavy tracks, this “Freestyle de Acordeon” by Patricio Maidana and DJ Gonzalo Aftermix is very hot. I need to get a download for us.
Last up for this week is a mixtape from our good friend and fellow cumbiero Cherman titled “Villera Bass del Cono Sur.” This is a great mix to end things on featuring a lot of great tracks from some of the best Nu Cumbia minds.
Before I go there is one announcement I’d like to get out there. My friends at Latin Bass Mexico Records are asking for mixtape entries for a special competition. Send your mixtapes in with a track list on Wetransfer to [email protected] from May 23rd to June7th. They will announce the winner who will have their mixtape shared on their website LatinBassMexico.com. Good luck.
As always it’s been great to bring you the Nu Cumbia Experience. From my desk in my new home office (fancy bedroom) to your ears as always!
Peace
