It’s been a great week so far for The Global Bass Experience. We have had some mega releases, which have reinforced my confidence in moving over to TGBE. The week is not over yet either. We have more surprises in store. But first let’s review this week in Cumbia, which has also consisted of many great uploads.
Dengue Dengue Dengue is a superpower duo in the Cumbia scene now. They only continue to grow in popularity and they deserve all the love. Fortunately for us they shared a brand new track. It’s a dope Cumbia Dub Dengue Dengue Dengue style!
Another dope Cumbia player is DJ Neber. Over the years I’ve expressed much enthusiasm for his Hip Hop Cumbia edits. It brings me much pleasure to bring him onto Funky Friday Cumbia where he will always have a home.
Here is his latest sick edit!
Enrikisimo is coming out with an EP very soon. He shares with us a sample of what is to come. I am excited for this EP.
Dany F dropped his dope Ininite/Finite EP last month. If you click the title it will take you to my review where you can download it. Though here is something new. A little update if you will, of “Chiricumbe” with vocals featuring Ismael Herrera.
Speaking of EP’s La Rebelde released this cool little two track Chicha EP titled “Cumbia Glamour” featuring their cover of “Sweet Dreams.” It’s always great to hear a new Cumbia band release material.
I remember thinking and actually writing my thoughts back when the Trap craze started that soon there would be Cumbia Trap edits. I think I figured it was going to be bigger than it was but there were a few cool Cumbia Trap tunes out there. Very recently however this deep bass Cumbia Trap track was just uploaded by Komando Wachin. I have to admit it’s pretty sick and will bump hard on a good system.
Exta-Machine Mx is really releasing a lot of great edits lately. This is his latest thug Cumbia.
Derbastler is back with his distinct Eastern Cumbia sound. He is the master of the Cumbia Balkanica and this beautiful instrumental of “Carpathian Song” is the latest of his great work.
Last week I had a couple of El Mulato’s Cumbia Terraza edits. This week I have yet another one to share and slow the vibe down for a few moments.
I’ve shared their videos but haven’t yet had any of their music to share until now. The band I’m referring to is Perro Agradecido Cumbia and this is their song “Amarre Conquistador.”
Before I get into the classics here is an edit of a classic. “La Zenaida” is a staple of Colombian Cumbia. Arturuo Herrera DJ brings us this exciting track “La Zenaida con Flauta Quena.”
At the beginning of this post I mentioned our busy week here on The Global Bass Experience. Well I was referring to our first official exclusive Cumbia EP, which is of my good friend Cybernetiko’s EP “Genetiko.” Here is a little recap in case you missed it.
But not only did we have that amazing release, we proudly also released Dialect Trio’s “Elements Of Style Remix” album we all worked really hard on. If you missed it here it is again.
Our Cumbia legend this week is none other than the great Lucho Bermúdez (January 25, 1912 in El Carmen de Bolívar – April 23, 1994). Many have covered Lucho’s songs over the years, which alone shows his massive influence over Cumbieros old and young.
Lucho started his career in the military playing in the marching band. There he mastered the flute, trombone, piccolo, tuba, trumpet, saxophone and clarinet. He established himself and his band under his name in Medellin, Colombia before moving to Mexico and Cuba where he spread the Colombian Cumbia sound.
Fortunately we have film footage of Lucho and his orchestra performing their hits.
Soundway Records has dedicated their work to remastering and re-releasing classic Latin American and African music. Their admirable efforts have made this music reach younger generations and keeping the music alive. So of course they had to do something with Lucho Bermúdez. This is a lovely medley of Lucho Bermúdez and his orchestra featuring six classic songs.
Also here is a sick remix by AfroKumbe of “Gaita De Las Flores.”
Thanks for stopping by Funky Friday Cumbia! I feel much freer (looks weird when you spell it) here and more relaxed. It’s a huge pleasure for me to provide this post weekly and gives me much pride knowing it is being received well.
Now get ready, because this coming Tuesday August 20th DJ Negro Dub premiers his new single off his new exclusive EP for The Global Bass Experience. It’s awesome!
