Returning after a couple days of lamenting over the death of David Bowie, I find myself greeted by some absolutely beautiful and powerful new music from the talented Matthew Shell of MTS Music. Once again he amazes me with exquisite production quality, gorgeous melodies, brilliant musicianship and immaculate vocals.
Spiritual Relationship: The Deeper Meaning is his new album, which acts as a greatest hits record. The introductory song, aptly titled Intro, is a short tease of what is to come on the album. It features several musicians who also appear on other tracks. The variety of musical approaches is perfectly blended from song to song. It starts out with modern Jazz at its finest with the first song; Misguided Ghosts; then is followed by a lovely R&B infused Dance song with very interesting violin licks.
The following song Thoughts of Her is truly remarkable. The vocal performance is unique and absolutely beautiful.
Next the album travels to a more dance floor friendly song but quickly returns to beautiful ballads like Prayer for World Peace, which contains a hauntingly beautiful vocal performance by Samantha Gunney.
This album showcases much of the incredibly gifted musical artists that Matthew Shell has written for and produced over the past few years. It shows his diversity as a producer, writer and musician, but most of all, friend.
With past released songs like My Baby and the soundtrack song Crime Never Sleeps, Spiritual Relationship: The Deeper Meaning, is truly a powerful work of musical art that fills me with euphoria and comforts me from my sadness. I’m truly honored and blessed to have a long-standing friendship with Matthew Shell and I eagerly look forward to where our future leads us.
